The Sanibel Shell Show is an annual tradition for Sanibel Island residents and tourists alike, and it brings many people to the area every year to enjoy art, shells, and plenty of fun. This year’s shell show is happening on March 8th and 9th and the Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa in Fort Myers. What can you expect from this year’s spectacular shell show?

“Shelly” from the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club
One of the most unique pieces that will be on display at the Sanibel Shell Show is “Shelly,” which is a full-size mannequin wearing a gorgeous outfit constructed solely from shells. This amazing art piece was created by Linda Graves Arnold and Andrea Schopf, who are both Sanibel Island locals. The two artists collected thousands of shells on Sanibel beaches and carefully chose ones to make the piece. You can see “Shelly” at the entrance to the Sanibel Shell Show. It will also be part of the live auction being held at the conclusion of the show on March 9th. If you’re interested in owning this one-of-a-kind Sanibel art piece, you can place your bid in person or in advance.
Inga Archer’s Australian Creations
Another one of the most notable pieces at the Sanibel Shell Show is coming all the way from New South Wales, Australia. Inga Archer, a renowned artist, will be showcasing her artwork at the show. Archer first began making art with shells she collected on Australian beaches, and her current work draws inspiration from flowers. She is well known for making floral bouquets, candle holders, jewelry, and other table décor from shells.
The Importance of the Sanibel Shell Show
The Sanibel Shell Show is the main fundraiser that the Shell Club hosts every year. The club helps give back to Sanibel Island and the broader shelling community, as they provide grants to local non-profit organizations like the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Commission and the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium. By supporting this annual show, you are supporting broader efforts towards conservation, water quality, conchology, and preserving Sanibel Island’s beauty.
