Over the past few weeks, our team has been reflecting on all we’ve gone through this year. We know we’ve expressed our gratitude several times, but we plan to keep the good vibes coming! Again, we’d like to thank each and every person who has supported our team as we rebuild. We’re also extremely grateful to everyone in our community. Hurricane Ian brought us many challenges, but we’ve worked through them together. Every day, things are improving, but none of us could have done it alone.

Now, here’s the latest Captiva and Sanibel news for our guests and other visitors to the area!
An Update on Captiva Reservations
Starting January 2nd, we will be accepting new reservations for Captiva properties! Our team has worked incredibly hard to clean up debris, remove damaged items, attend inspections and schedule various repairs. While it will still take some time to restore the beauty of the islands, we can’t wait for the season ahead! It will be so rewarding to welcome guests back to Captiva soon and see the smiles on their faces. We’re counting down the days!
Our team would also like to mention that Captiva fared significantly better than Sanibel after Ian. Due to this, most of our available rentals will be located in Captiva for the time being. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us!
Up-to-Date Requirements for Staying on the Islands
We want to keep you up to date on exactly who can visit and stay on the island at this time. Here’s some additional Captiva and Sanibel news to keep in mind:
- Starting January 1st, Lee County will resume normal toll operations on all 3 toll bridges, including the Sanibel Causeway.
- The Causeway is still open to Sanibel and Captiva residents and private contractors with a valid Florida Driver’s License with a Sanibel or Captiva address and/or a 2021 or 2022 Sanibel Re-Entry Pass.
- On January 2nd, the Causeway will officially be open to all non-residents!
- All Kingfisher guests should have their photo ID and reservation print-out. Please keep these readily available as you travel throughout the islands. A 9 PM curfew remains in effect. At this time only residents can travel during curfew hours.
- Wi-Fi service in and around the island is intermittent, and though we have TVs on the property service providers are still at work fixing the connection. Please bring smartphones and tablets if you plan to watch any shows or programs you enjoy.
- Cellphone service on the island is also spotty.
- Since Internet service is unpredictable, some stores may be cash only.
- Expect construction and clean-up noise during your stay. While our Captiva office and rentals are open, the island itself is still in the active recovery process.
- While driving onto the islands be aware there is debris along the side of the roadways, and use caution when driving through the island.
- There remains a great deal of debris, damage, recovery, and repair along all the roads on the islands. Please be aware and respectful of work crews.
- Bikers and walkers will have to be very careful if they intend to move around without a car.
- While there are some Sanibel restaurants open, please refrain from “touring” Sanibel so they can continue with their speedy recovery.
- Recovery efforts on Sanibel and Captiva are ongoing and continue to evolve day by day. If access to the islands needs to be limited for debris cleanup, the City will release further updates to announce this change.
