Restaurants Reopening: Where to Get Delicious Bites This Spring on Sanibel Island and Captiva Island

While Hurricane Ian is now in the rearview mirror, the impact of it on Sanibel Island remains. As the area recovers, many businesses are opening and reopening so that tourists and locals can enjoy their favorites. What are some of the latest restaurant openings on Sanibel Island?

Gramma Dot’s

Gramma Dot’s waterfront restaurant is one of the most iconic restaurants on Sanibel Island, and they are open again for business. Their head chef has returned and is serving up the same amazing seafood dishes and famous key lime pie. This restaurant is a local institution that has been enjoyed by many generations of Sanibel Island and Captiva residents, and they are now open every day from 11:30 AM-8:00 PM.

Sanibel Cafe

The Sanibel Café is officially back! Since 2006, Richard McCurry has been the owner of the café, and he has expressed his gratitude to the Tahitian Gardens Shopping Center and the community for helping the café to recover. While there have been many hiccups on the road to recovery, the Sanibel Café on Sanibel Island is now open again with a limited menu.

Cantina Captiva & Sunshine Seafood Café and Wine Bar

Cantina Captiva was one of the many Captiva Island restaurants that experienced serious damage from the hurricane. Their sister restaurant, Sunshine Seafood Café and Wine Bar, has recently opened up. This restaurant offers fine dining in a casual atmosphere, and it is also located on Captiva Island. Additionally, Cantina Captiva is finalizing electrical work before reopening. In the meantime, Rico Suave’s food truck is serving up all of your Cantina Captiva favorites in a casual outdoor environment.

Over Easy Cafe

The Over Easy Café on Sanibel Island is having a grand reopening on March 17th! It’s been well over a year and a half since they were last welcoming customers into their doors, and they are incredibly excited to be opening again. The Over Easy Café is known for being Sanibel’s all-day breakfast café, and they offer unique treats and more traditional breakfast favorites.

Lazy Flamingo

The Lazy Flamingo has opened a food truck in their parking lot that offers many of your Lazy Flamingo favorites to go. Their current schedule is subject to change but includes weekends. There is no current public plan for reopening the restaurant, but this is a good chance for the community to support the restaurant and show how much they’d like it to reopen!
