Sanibel Island is welcoming two brand new restaurants this fall, as Wickie’s Lighthouse Restaurant and The Magic Bus Caffeine & Creamery are slated to open. Longtime residents and vacationers will recognize the dynamic team behind these restaurants, as the owners come from The Island Cow and The Mad Hatter.

The History of These New Restaurants
In the past couple of years, Brian and Elke Podlasek of The Island Cow and Max and Bridget Kolshak of The Mad Hatter both lost their restaurants. Despite this devastation, they were inspired to join together to create something new on Sanibel Island. Island Cow was forced to close in August 2022 after devastating fire damage, and The Mad Hatter restaurant was destroyed during Hurricane Ian. The new restaurants present an opportunity for Sanibel Island residents to enjoy fresh new dining and are a chance to bring new jobs to the area.
Wickie’s Lighthouse Restaurant and The Magic Bus Caffeine & Creamery
Wickie’s Lighthouse Restaurant on Sanibel Island is going to combine the elegance and timeless feel of The Mad Hatter with a more comfortable setting. The restaurant will offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as signature cocktails incorporating local ingredients and flavors. Wickie’s will be showcasing the rich history of the island and its residents, including the original lighthouse keepers.
The Magic Bus Caffeine & Creamery will have something for everyone, as baristas combine modern coffees and baked goods with vintage ice cream and a retro look, including fun VW Bug-inspired decorations. Those who want to get their nostalgia fix are going to love spending time at The Magic Bus!
Both new restaurants are signs that Sanibel Island is coming back better than ever in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. We look forward to sharing many more new restaurants and businesses with you in the coming months!
