We will continue to provide our clients with as much information as possible regarding the rehabilitation of Sanibel and Captiva Island after the hurricane in the coming weeks. Ian tied for the fifth-strongest hurricane on record to hit the U.S., but we are beginning to recover day by day. Our update on Captiva Island is particularly optimistic: Captiva fared much better than Sanibel and could open for business as early as Christmas. Nothing is 100% certain, but recovery efforts have been moving fast and our community is working together to rebuild.

North Captiva was hit hard, and according to the commissioner with North Captiva Fire, half of the homes there sustained substantial wind damage. However, many of our properties on Captiva withstood the storm. We are incredibly grateful for that, and we’re eager to re-open our office on Captiva shortly. Below, you’ll find a few more important updates on Captiva Island:

Essential Services in Captiva
In the aftermath of Ian, no power, water, or sewer services were available on Captiva or Sanibel. Now water is available, and most residents on Captiva should have power by November 15th. LeeTran is currently running a shuttle that begins at South Seas and transports individuals throughout Captiva. Another shuttle is available for Sanibel residents. The City Recycling Center is also collecting refrigerator and kitchen-related waste from residents at this time. Commercial property owners must contact their waste hauler for pick-up services.
Beloved Restaurants on Captiva Have Survived
Here’s a wonderful update on Captiva Island: Captiva restaurants like the Bubble Room and the Mucky Duck have survived! While both establishments will be closed for the foreseeable future, they will soon re-build and get back on their feet. The Mucky Duck, despite being on the beach, was found to have not been harmed by the storm. They are set to reopen as soon as power, water, and sewage services are restored. You can follow their journey here!
