All Sanibel Island Beach Parking Is Now Open

The recovery process from Hurricane Ian has been filled with ups and downs, but we’re delighted to announce that Sanibel Island has now reopened all of its beach parking areas. This might seem small, but it marks another major milestone in the recovery process from Hurricane Ian, as well as Hurricanes Helene and Milton.  The latter were two powerful storms that struck Southwest Florida just 13 days apart in the fall of 2024, causing widespread damage across the region and prompting months of intensive restoration efforts.

Sanibel Island Beach Parking Is Open Again

The final portion of Sanibel’s beach parking was reopened on April 25, 2025, when the City of Sanibel officially reopened the Turner Beach Park parking lot. As of this reopening, all seven of the island’s city-operated beach parks now have parking available for public use again. This is a huge win for residents, tourists, and the local businesses that depend on tourism traffic.

What Are the Different Sanibel Island Beach Parking Lots?

Sanibel Island is famous for its gorgeous beaches and world-class shelling opportunities. Thanks to the reopening of Turner Beach Park, beachgoers can now fully enjoy all seven beach parks:

  • Causeway Beach Park: This area is popular for swimming, fishing, and picnicking because it has great views and easy access.
  • Bowman’s Beach Park: Bowman’s Beach Park is perfect for long walks and excellent shelling, and it is one of Sanibel’s most beloved beaches. This park also has a playground and pavilion for enjoying your afternoon.
  • Blind Pass Beach Park: This beach park is a favorite among anglers and shell hunters, and it sits on the south side of the Blind Pass Bridge where Sanibel meets Captiva. This beach is pet-friendly (on-leash) too!
  • Gulfside City Park (Algiers Beach): Gulfside City Park offers shady picnic areas, restrooms, and scenic walking paths, making it great for families. The loop trail is a great place to enjoy a nature walk, and you can also enjoy good shelling opportunities on the beach.
  • Lighthouse Beach Park: This park is one of the most famous parks on the island, as it includes the historic Sanibel Lighthouse. Lighthouse Beach Park is ideal for sunrise walks and wildlife viewing, and there are also picnic tables for relaxing and enjoying lunch.
  • Tarpon Bay Road Beach Park: This park is a quieter location, making it perfect for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the tranquil shoreline.
  • Turner Beach Park: This beach park is just over the bridge on Captiva Island. It is a great spot for watching the sunset, and it also offers excellent fishing and shelling opportunities. Turner Beach Park is also a landing and launch for paddlecraft.
